Fall 2023 Main Stage

This fall, Bravo is excited to bring one of the most beloved musicals of all time to stage! Our full length, elaborate production (RSC version) has many speaking, singing, and dancing roles for performers of all ages (K -12). The stage adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s story, features the iconic musical score from the classic MGM film starring Judy Garland.

Registration for fall production opens August 4th. Rehearsal begins August 20th and runs for 10 weeks. Rehearsals are at Bravo's teaching studio, located at 2227 Hillsboro Road in the Grassland area of northern Williamson county begin. Tech week / performances will run Oct. 23 - 29. 

Two rehearsal groups will be formed: Ages 12 and under & Ages 13 - 18.

THE WIZARD OF OZ CHARACTERS & DESCRIPTIONS:

THE MUNCHKINS: 
Many speaking, singing, dancing roles for younger youth in following roles. They will sing and perform the entire Munchkinland Sequence in Act 1. Children will then change characters to be Flying Monkeys, Ozians, and Snowflakes.
Munchkins have 2 rehearsals each week.

DOROTHY GALE: Kansas girl, earnest, expressive, and strong-willed, in search of something more. Very strong singer who moves well. 

SCARECROW: Clever and resourceful despite his perceived lack of a brain. Has an honest warmth. Should be an excellent, pliable dancer. Tap a plus.

TIN MAN: A romantic desperate for a heart. Kind and gentle, with a wry sense of humor. Should be strong singer and dance required, possibly tap or soft shoe. 

COWARDLY LION: A mix of bravado and cowardice. Moves well. Agile, likable with excellent comic timing, unafraid to be goofy and physically expressive.

WIZARD of OZ / PROFESSOR MARVEL: Great stage presence, strong acting with eccentric flair.  

WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST: Character villain with an over-the-top stage presence. Excellent comedic timing with a killer cackle. 

GLINDA, GOOD WITCH OF THE NORTH: Benevolent and beloved, graceful but also whimsical. Strong singer.

EMERALD CITY GUARD - Strong singer with big stage presence, comedic timing, and tap skills. 

AUNT EM is no-nonsense, but loves her niece and defends her fiercely. Speaking role.

UNCLE HENRY: Dorothy’s uncle, easy going and hard-working. Dry sense of humor. Speaking role.

HUNK: Kansas farm hand with good comedic timing and strong stage presence. Speaking role.

HENRY: Kansas farm hand with good comedic timing and strong stage presence. Speaking role.

ZEKE: Kansas farm hand with good comedic timing and strong stage presence. Speaking role.

MISS ALMIRA GULCH: Neighbor of Aunt Em, Uncle Henry and Dorothy Gale. Strong acting and bicycle riding.

THE CROWS: Small group of singers with good comedic skills and dance movement. Sing and dance with Scarecrow, "If I Only Had a Brain"

THE TREES: Small group harmony singers with comedic skills and dance movement. Dance and sing with Tinman, "If I Only Had a Heart", as apple trees in glamorous gowns.

THE WITCH'S GENERAL & WINKIE SOLDIERS: Some speaking roles, comedic timing, singing.

NIKKO: Leader of the Flying Monkeys. Energetic mover with comedic timing.

FLYING MONKEYS: Energetic movement and comedic timing.

JITTERBUGS: Singers, jazz dancers, lots of energy for 6 minute number!

POPPIES: Singing flowers with ballet movement.

CITIZENS OF OZ: Singers, dancers for Emerald City. Big dance number, including tap.

TORNADO DANCERS: Strong dancers for exciting lyrical dance.

SNOW QUEEN: Strong dancer.

SNOW DANCERS: Children as snow dancers to "freeze" the Poppies.

TOTO: Canine star!

SYNOPSIS:
Dorothy Gale, a young Kansas farm girl dreams of a land "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." Dorothy's dream comes true when she, Toto, and her house are transported by a tornado to a bright and magical world unlike anything she has seen before! Unfortunately, she makes a mortal enemy of a Wicked Witch when the house falls on the hag's sister. Befriended by a Scarecrow without a brain, a Tin Man with no heart and a Cowardly Lion--and protected by a pair of enchanted ruby slippers from Glinda the Good Witch--Dorothy sets off along a yellow brick road for the Emerald City to beseech the all-powerful Wizard of Oz for help to return home.
