Grassland's Bravo Center Stages 'Beauty and the Beast'

Tale as old as time/ True as it can be ... Certain as the sun/ Rising in the east/ Tale as old as time/ Song as old as rhyme/ Beauty and the beast.”

The year was 1991. The voice is Angela Lansbury’s. The song is the theme to Disney’s animated classic “Beauty and the Beast.” A duet of the song featuring Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson was released the following year; it won the 1992 Academy Award for Best Original Song and two Grammy Awards in 1993.

In 1994, “Beauty and the Beast” became Disney’s first animated film to be adapted into a Broadway musical. This week, Bravo Creative Arts Center will bring the cherished classic to the local stage in a performance featuring more than 100 local children and teens.

The family classic tells of Belle (Maddie Maradik), a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast (Bobby Guenther), a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

You’ll want to sing along from your audience seats as Bravo’s talented young cast performs all the beloved songs from the film. Four performances will be given at The Ensworth Theater, 7401 Hwy. 100. Evening performances will be at 7 p.m. June 11, 12 and 13. A matinee performance will be at 2 p.m. June 13. Tickets are $10 each at the door.

To request reserved seating for the show, please email info@bravocreativeartscenter.com with your name, number of tickets needed and show time preference. Tickets can be held for you at Will Call inside the theater lobby on show date.

This is a great opportunity for the whole family to enjoy some quality entertainment in a first-class theater setting, all while supporting the creative endeavors of our area’s talented kids.
